Week 52: December 29, 2019
Last post of the year! We had two bald eagles in the trees by our house this week. The one on the left was hanging out for an hour or so and the one landing came in and then left fairly quickly. Lorraine also got a photo of one of the owls that we often hear at night but have not seen yet. We finally enough snow for it to stick. I tried to get a slow motion video of it falling.

The birds were out in force today. This red-bellied woodpecker was checking out this birdhouse.

They are finally harvesting the fields around our house today. This might be the last corn in Nebraska. I was out of town when they did it last year and it was much earlier.
Week 45: November 10, 2019
We had a chance to get the garden beds ready for winter yesterday. I should have been more patient and waited for the sun to actually start setting. Yesterday was in the 70s and today in the 40s with a potential for an inch of snow tonight. Who doesn't love the fall in the Great Plains!

We passed the one year mark in our house this last week. One of the reasons we decided to move here was the view for sunsets. So, it seemed fitting to post a photo of tonights sunset.

I would not normally post a follow up like this, but this is the same random corn plant from a few weeks ago. It has turned into an amazing display of symmetry. I've never seen corn grow like this before.

We spent the weekend camping at Merritt Reservoir, an International Dark Sky Park, This is the first time I have taken a photo of the Milky Way and I am wishing I had done a few things differently! We'll call this a rough draft and learn some more before trying it again. Now to see if I don't have to be in a offical Dark Sky Park or drive 5 hours.

We had a chance to check out the Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha with some friends this weekend. This short video is from the train garden. We will need to make sure to go back at different points of the year to see the different plants in bloom.

We were on Long Island for a wedding and decided to spend a night at the converted TWA terminal at JFK. The whole thing looks like the original terminal and they turned this plane into a bar.

Week 26: June 23, 2019
We spent the weekend at the National Forest outside of Halsey, NE. This was our first visit to the Sandhills and we were impressed. We had a great campsite and went on a nice hike. The weather wasn't great but the rain stopped while we were hiking. I'll post some more photos when I get a chance to spend some time looking at them.
Week 25 (part 2): June 14, 2019
The second storm was a crazy light show. It was awesome in the distance but once it hit us we had some serious wind and rain along with the thunder and lightning. It was short lived though and I got a good shot of a lightning bolt.

We had two storms come through this week. I love watching them in the distance. This one was right a sunset and had some lightening that highlighted the clouds every once in a while.

We heard a weird bird call outside that we hadn't heard before. I thought I saw this quail at first but once I had my camera I didn't see it again. I took a couple of photos in the hopes of getting lucky. I guess it actually worked this time!

I was taking some photos of the different flowers that had bloomed this week and caught this butterfly going between bushes.

This one of a pair of barn swallows that seem to be attempting to make a nest on our front porch. There is a lot of swooping when we are on the front porch.

Week 20 - May 12, 2019
It has been fun to see the plants coming back as we get further into spring. Having moved into this house at the end of October, it will be interesting to see what flowers we have and how everything survived the winter. Next week we should start seeing some flowers blossoming.
Week 19 - May 5, 2019
A big storm popped up on Sunday night, lots of wind, rain, and some hail. A tornado even touched down a few miles from our house (we just had the furniture on the deck moved around and a rain barrel tried to escape). This was taken after the storm passed and it was quiet.

Week 16 - April 21, 2019
We had a chance to get some seeds planted and get the rest of the beds ready for planting in a couple of weeks. This is our first time with a garden this large. In the past, it has been a few tomato plants and a few strawberries.

First time mowing, it must really be spring. I only did this part of the yard, it will take awhile to do the whole thing.

Spring is slowly coming along. We had some strawberry plants coming up and this asparagus showed up overnight. We are excited to get the garden going and is great to have something that comes up so quickly in the year.

In San Diego for work. It is nice to get some warm weather as spring is having a hard time getting going at home.

We drove out and saw the crane migration on Saturday. It is amazing to see so many birds in one place.
Week 10 - March 10, 2019
Isn't it supposed to be spring by now? This is the most snow we have seen in our 7 years in Lincoln. The last two snows have been followed by cold weather, and it is just now starting to disappear on us. Spring break is this week, but it does not look like it right now!

Week 8 - February 24, 2019
A break from our Nebraska winter with a conference in Phoenix and then San Fransico this week. The weather was "cold" for the locals in the each city, but it was much better than the weather at home. Somehow, we missed the big snow storms while we were traveling and our flights were not impacted. This is a photo from the conference outside of San Fransico. The conference was in two different hotels that are about an 8-minute walk. I may have chosen sessions to attend to maximize my outside time...
